Rental Car Companies in or near San Miguel de Allende

Most of the major rental car companies are represented at all three of the international airports listed on the Airports page. There are also a couple of San Miguel rental companies and one in Queretaro who will deliver the car to you.

For most people it is not necessary to rent a car when visiting San Miguel de Allende because walking is so easy and the main parts of the town are not too spread out. On the occasion that you do want to ride, the cab fares are only 25 pesos ($1.90 US) in the day and 30 pesos at night to most Centro locations (2009 prices). Going further out usually costs between 50 – 100 pesos.

If you want to take a taxi for a few hours, it is possible to negotiate an hourly rate with a taxi driver. Hourly rates range from 100 – 120 pesos. Private drivers are also available for slightly more.

Be sure you are covered for insurance via your credit card or take the daily insurance premium. In Mexico, you are held liable (and often in jail) until money for all damages are paid.
