LIVING IN SAN MIGUEL
ABOUT ME
I am a Canadian who has fallen in love with San Miguel de Allende. This puts me in some good company, as thousands of expats call this charming colonial town in central Mexico their permanent home. And many more are succumbing to the magic every day, realizing it’s the perfect place to put down roots. After nearly a decade working in real estate in Toronto, I will be relocating to San Miguel in late 2013 to work full-time with buyers and sellers.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT LIFE IN SAN MIGUEL?
As I am so passionate about this town and all it has to offer, I wanted to develop a portal to share the great experiences I’ve had here. I also thought that the best way to answer questions people might have about life here is to provide those answers directly from San Miguel residents themselves. To that end, I have interviewed a diverse group of expats, artists and entrepreneurs and those video interviews will be available here on my blog. So whether you’re wondering about buying a home here, the cost of health care, taxes, or the dynamics of the town’s social life, you’ll find out about these subjects and more via these fun, intimate discussions.
MORE THAN A TOWN, IT’S A COMMUNITY
The influx of expatriates to San Miguel began in earnest after World War II, when U.S. vets were provided a restorative location to study art. The inherent benefit of having this long established ex-patriot community has been the creation of a well embedded infrastructure of English services. San Miguel has become THE retirement destination of choice for the individual seeking an alternative to the typical resort town. Life is never boring here. The landscape is a never ending kaleidoscope of beauty, and your neighbors are incredibly charming and friendly.
MY GOAL
My goal is to generate positive, ongoing discussion about life here in San Miguel. And in the process offer the kind of insight I wish I had had when I first started coming here to people contemplating making San Miguel their home.
I’m happy to answer specific questions about San Miguel, and if I can’t provide you with the answers you’re seeking, I’ll refer you to someone who can. I hope that you find this site a valuable tool as you embark on your own journey of discovery about this very special place.
Hasta Luego, David MacLean
